This project is funded by Clare County Council’s Creative Ireland fund.

This exhibition’s ‘tideline’ reimagines the process and methods used to gather and harvest Seaweed feams/sea rods on the foreshore, the construction of a Kelp drying stand, a Kelp burning pit and the burning of the Kelp as it was done over one hundred years ago as a raw material towards the production of iodine. The exhibition documents the six months of physical shorework undertaken by the assembly of a coastal community at Coosheen/Farrihy Bay, County Clare.

Through storied material, field illustrations, written word, photo captures, microfilms and sound recordings, these fieldnotes and research captures the transformation of the Kelp makers and our watery relations, their material connections through time to keep ‘the story going for those who come after’.
