- **Event Description**: A special driving tour to the Battle of Monmouth monument in downtown Freehold. This monument commemorates the Battle of Monmouth which began near this site on June 28, 1778.  Learn the history of the monument, which is as big as the battle monument at Yorktown. The Battle of Monmouth monument is not often visited because it is about two miles from Monmouth Battlefield State Park. It has some interesting and significant artwork on it, including a series of bronze plaques that depict the battle. These will be explained during the tour. There were several important movements during the Battle of Monmouth at the site and nearby which will also be explained. 

This is a free event. The tour is led by award-winning author and Friends of Monmouth Battlefield President, Dr. David Martin. Meet your guide at the Park Visitor Center at 1:30 PM (outside near the main door) to convoy there by car or drive directly to the monument yourself by 2 PM.  The Monument is located in front of the Monmouth County Courthouse. Parking is available on Court Street or in the Court House parking lot.
