Description:
Qigong (Chi Kung) is an ancient form of exercise practiced for physical health, enlightenment and martial power. In this 8 week session we will take a set of simple physical exercises and use them to open our internal energy pathways and connect our body to our mind, energy and spirit. We’ll look at some different systems of Qigong and will also explore some specific qigong exercises for developing the spirit and learning to sense and control your personal life energy (qi). Qigong has many of the same health benefits as Taiji (Tai Chi), but is easier to learn, and regular practice leads to improved sleep, lower blood pressure, increased flexibility and relief from many stress-induced problems.
Kyri (rhymes with “fiery) has been an active student of martial arts since beginning Kung Fu lessons in 1972. Since then, she has studied Aikido, Chen Style Tai Chi and Yang Style Tai Chi. She began studying the Yang style at the beginning of 2002, with Holly Yang, of Yang Arts, including the Yang 24-form, the 32-form sword , the 48-form combined style, the 42-form Sword, the 88-form and Taiji Gongfu Fan. She has taught Taiji and Qigong at Arapahoe Community College, the Trails Rec Center in Aurora, Southwest Family YMCA and Isis bookstore. She is an associate member of the American Tai Chi and Qigong Association, and the National Qigong Association.

Meditation and internal arts have always been a big part of her life, and she started Tai Chi as a way to move from a purely internal pursuit to a more physical practice. Kyri believes in taking personal responsibility for one’s health and physical condition, living in harmony with nature, and that learning new things is a true joy of human existence.
