Former University of Denver professor Frederick Greenspahn’s ground-breaking volume, The State of American Jewry: New Insights and Scholarship (NYU Press, 2025), examines the shifting ground beneath American Jewry’s feet.  Contributors to The State of American Jewry include leading scholars of American Jewish history who explore the evolving nature of contemporary Judaism, Jewish identity and American Jews’ relationship with Israel.

Please join us for this year’s Livingston & Abrams Lecture in American Jewish History—a special keynote session of the 2026 Western Jewish Studies Association annual conference. This program is open to the public and features Dr. Greenspahn and RMJHS Director, Dr. Joshua Furman, in conversation with contributors to The State of American Jewry: Dr. Sarah Imhoff (Indiana University), Dr. Jennifer Thompson (California State University, Northridge), and Dr. Dov Waxman (UCLA). A Q&A will follow the panel.  We invite you to join us and learn about the diverse religious practices, positions, and politics of American Jewry today.
