BLAST is seeking a talented and diverse company of performers for our production of the Tony Award-winning musical Come From Away.

Based on the extraordinary true story of 7,000 airline passengers stranded in the small town of Gander, Newfoundland, on September 11, 2001, Come From Away is a moving celebration of kindness, resilience, and the remarkable connections that can be formed during times of crisis. Through unforgettable music and heartfelt storytelling, this powerful ensemble musical reminds us of the best of humanity.

Audition Information

Thursday, July 9
7:00 PM to 10:00 PM

Saturday, July 11
12:00 PM to 4:00 PM

Auditions will include a vocal audition followed by cold readings from the script.

Please Prepare
A 32-bar cut (approximately one minute) of a contemporary musical theatre song.
Bring clearly marked sheet music in the correct key. An accompanist will be provided.
Please do not sing a cappella or use prerecorded accompaniment.

Character Breakdown

Come From Away is an ensemble-driven musical in which each performer portrays multiple characters. Ages listed are the approximate stage age of the character, not the age of the performer. We encourage performers of all backgrounds to audition.

Beverley Bass

Female | Mature Adult | Mezzo-Soprano (E3 to D5)

The first female captain for American Airlines and a pioneering aviator. Beverley is intelligent, confident, compassionate, and composed under pressure. Her journey reflects both professional pride and personal uncertainty as the events of September 11 unfold. Also portrays Annette and additional roles.

Claude Elliott

Male | Mature Adult | Baritone (A2 to E4)

The longtime mayor of Gander. A calm, humble, and dependable leader whose compassion and practicality guide an entire community through an unprecedented humanitarian crisis. Also portrays Derm and additional roles.

Bonnie Harris

Female | Adult | Alto/Mezzo (G3 to D5)

An SPCA volunteer determined to care for the dozens of stranded animals left aboard grounded aircraft. Practical, caring, and resilient, Bonnie never loses sight of those who cannot speak for themselves. Also portrays Martha and additional roles.

Beulah Davis

Female | Mature Adult | Alto/Mezzo (G3 to D5)

A beloved teacher and lifelong volunteer who embodies the generosity and warmth of Newfoundland. Beulah helps organize food, shelter, and comfort for thousands of stranded passengers with humor, grace, and endless kindness. Also portrays Delores and additional roles.

Hannah O'Rourke

Black/African descent

A mother desperately trying to reach her son, a firefighter in New York City. Hannah's story is one of unwavering hope, immense strength, and quiet resilience. This role demands exceptional emotional honesty and vocal storytelling.

Diane Gray

A Texas businesswoman stranded far from home who unexpectedly finds friendship and eventually love with fellow passenger Nick. Witty, warm, independent, and optimistic, Diane brings humor and heart to the story. Also portrays Crystal and additional roles.

Janice Mosher

Female | Young Adult | Soprano/Mezzo (A3 to F5)

An ambitious local television reporter covering the biggest story of her young career. Janice grows from an inexperienced journalist into a confident storyteller while documenting the events unfolding around her. Also portrays a flight attendant and additional roles.

Bob

Male | Mature Adult | Baritone (A2 to F4)

A New Yorker searching for news of his firefighter son. Bob is strong, compassionate, and quietly vulnerable as he struggles to remain hopeful amid unimaginable uncertainty. Also portrays Muhumuza and additional roles.

Nick Marson

Male | Adult | Tenor/Baritone (B2 to G4)

An English oil engineer stranded in Gander while traveling home. Intelligent, reserved, and thoughtful, Nick develops an unexpected relationship with Diane that changes both of their lives. Also portrays Doug and additional roles.

Kevin Tuerff

An energetic American traveler whose humor and confidence often conceal fear and vulnerability. Stranded alongside his partner Kevin Jung, his emotional journey explores love, resilience, and the importance of human connection. Also portrays Garth and additional roles.

Middle Eastern/North African preferred

The friendly Gander constable responsible for helping keep order during the town's unprecedented challenge. Dependable, approachable, and good-humored, Oz exemplifies the compassion and hospitality of the people of Newfoundland. Also portrays Joey and additional roles.

We are looking for strong singers, versatile actors, and collaborative storytellers who are excited to bring this inspiring true story to life. Because every performer plays multiple roles, adaptability, authenticity, and ensemble spirit are essential.
