INSTRUCTOR: Laurie Wagner Storlie
Students will learn fundamental improv principles including the core "Yes, And..." rule, active listening, and collaborative scene-building in a safe, inclusive environment. The curriculum progresses from basic warm-ups and two-person scenes to more complex group work, exploring relationships, finding comedic "game" in scenes, and incorporating object work and status dynamics. (8 sessions)
Throughout the course, participants will develop storytelling skills, stage presence, and teamwork abilities. The class culminates in a graduation show where students demonstrate their newly acquired improvisational skills, emphasizing that improv is fundamentally about collaborative storytelling in the moment where everyone succeeds by supporting their scene partners.
This is an 8 week class that will culminate with a graduation show in the week following the final session of the class.
Registration required: $164 for members / $184 for non-members
The registration price is inclusive of a $3 processing fee.
LAURIE WAGNER STORLIE is a delightfully seasoned actor and improv artist who's been saying "yes, and..." since the 1990s and somehow managed to turn chaos into an art form! She honed her comedic chops during LA's legendary "Great Improv Explosion" of the early 2000s, training with the best at Second City/Hollywood and IO West, where her all-female ensemble W.I.N.K. became such a hit they packed houses and snagged the "Best in Fest" award at the 2004 Southern Improv Festival.
When motherhood arrived in 2011, Laurie discovered that raising kids was a lot like improv (unpredictable, requiring constant adaptation, and very often hilarious), so she cleverly combined her early childhood education background with her background in improv to create Improvised Parenting, helping other parents navigate the beautiful madness of child-rearing using the rules and tenets of improv.
These days, she teaches improv classes at ArtsQuest in Bethlehem and runs her "Improv For Everyday Survival" workshops throughout the Lehigh Valley, sharing everything from The Harold to sketch writing, character development, and specialized techniques for wellness and corporate team-building—because apparently, there's no life situation that can't be improved with a little improvisation and a lot of laughter!
