Ponders End Station, South Street, Ponders End, United Kingdom
The River Lea is one of the longest, and most important tributaries of the Thames - taking a 42 mile journey from Bedfordshire to join the Thames at Bow Creek in East London. The Lea has formed the boundary between Saxon's and Danes, been home to medieval mills, London's furniture industry and flows through the Olympic Park. This series of walks will look at the history of the River Lea, tracing its course on its way to the Thames.
Meet up at Ponders End Station to follow the Lea through outer London. The walk passes the last large scale flour mill in Greater London, which was once powered by the waters of the Lea. Today, this part of the river is home to the Camden Brewery and Enfield Studios, where TV programmes are made, but in the 20th century all kinds of manufacturing took place here. Rob will tell the stories of the tings made by this part of the River Lea
The walk is about 4 miles in total and finishes at Tottenham Hale Station.
