Since ancient times, humans have used mosaics to decorate the world. People first used different colored stones, then glazed ceramic and glass tesserae came into use. We will use modern tesserae to make fun mosaics with a warm weather theme. These indoor mosaics will be suitable for hanging on the wall, setting on a table or displayed on an easel. 

Participants can choose from 10 patterns and make their own mosaic in the class which will extend over two days. We will discuss adding simple shading to the basic patterns to give the images visual depth.  On our first full day of class, we will arrange, cut, and glue down the tesserae pieces. The second day of class will only last a couple of hours, so we can grout the dry mosaics to take home. 

This is a beginner class designed for interested adults and teens.  We will use sharp cutting tools in the class and there is a risk involved, so please take care!  Participants need to wear safety glasses and gloves for cutting and grouting.  Mosaic work requires patience, attention to detail, and some speed if we are to accomplish the task in the time available.  Come join us to learn this ancient art form!
