Participants will design and build handmade puppets, wearable costume elements, and parade-ready creations inspired by Ely, the Northwoods, and the spirit of community celebration. This workshop is designed to be welcoming for all ages and skill levels.

Participants will also be invited to reconnect at Ely’s 4th of July Parade, where the group will walk alongside Jane Holtz’s 12-foot walleye parade puppet.

Advance registration is recommended.

Jane Dandron Holtz is Northern Lakes Arts Association’s 2026 Creative Spirit of the North Awardee, recognized for their imaginative, community-centered artistic practice and their ability to make visual art feel playful, welcoming, and accessible.

This workshop is supported in part by the Arrowhead Regional Arts Council through an operating support grant made possible by the people of Minnesota through a legislative appropriation from the arts and cultural heritage fund.
