About the event

DEC 2025 - N. Ga Book Club - TALES OF A FEMALE NOMAD
Tales of a Female Nomad: Living at Large in the World
by Rita Golden Gelman
Dec 2007 | Travel | Memoir
Setting: Various/World
413 pages
The true story of an ordinary woman living an extraordinary existence all over the world. An amazing travelogue.
At the age of 48, on the verge of a divorce, Rita Golden Gelman left an elegant life in L.A. to follow her dream of travelling the world, connecting with people in cultures all over the globe.
In 1986, Rita sold her possessions and became a nomad, living in a Zapotec village in Mexico, sleeping with sea lions on the Galapagos Islands, and residing everywhere from thatched huts to regal palaces.
She has observed orangutans in the rain forest of Borneo, visited trance healers and dens of black magic, and cooked with women on fires all over the world. Rita’s example encourages us all to dust off our dreams and rediscover the joy, the exuberance, and the hidden spirt that so many of us bury when we become adults.
Recommended by Faye Sullivan: I found it interesting and it sparked some emotions in me that surprised me. Story of a middle aged woman who decides to become a nomad after divorcing her Hollywood high-powered husband.

FORMAT: Each person gives a SHORT overview of what they thought of the book - like, didn't like, etc.

Then discussion leader guides through more specific questions or topics. [You can often find specific book club questions online. There are also "generic" book club questions available. But the more you customize, the better the discussion. ]

We do our best to give everyone an equal chance to share their thoughts about the book.

Occasionally and depending on attendees' schedules and preferences, we sometimes go to Mike's Restaurant just down the road which does not take credit cards, or to another restaurant.
