Join us at the Kittitas County Historical Museum for a two-day, hands-on 𝐂𝐨𝐫𝐧𝐡𝐮𝐬𝐤 𝐁𝐚𝐠 𝐖𝐞𝐚𝐯𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐖𝐨𝐫𝐤𝐬𝐡𝐨𝐩 with artist and tradition bearer 𝐉𝐞𝐧𝐧𝐲 𝐖𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐢𝐚𝐦𝐬.
Cornhusk weaving is a traditional practice used to create functional and decorative items from natural materials. During this immersive workshop, participants will learn foundational weaving techniques and create a 𝐬𝐦𝐚𝐥𝐥 𝐟𝐥𝐚𝐭 𝐜𝐨𝐫𝐧𝐡𝐮𝐬𝐤 𝐛𝐚𝐠 to take home.
Jenny was raised on the Nez Perce Reservation and learned traditional skills through family teachings and hands-on experience. She was introduced to cornhusk weaving at Nez Perce National Historical Park and has continued to develop her practice through years of study and work with master weavers across the Northwest. Her work has been featured at the Northwest Native American Weavers Conference, in the 𝑆𝑚𝑖𝑡ℎ𝑠𝑜𝑛𝑖𝑎𝑛’𝑠 𝑁𝑎𝑡𝑖𝑜𝑛𝑎𝑙 𝑀𝑢𝑠𝑒𝑢𝑚 𝑜𝑓 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝐴𝑚𝑒𝑟𝑖𝑐𝑎𝑛 𝐼𝑛𝑑𝑖𝑎𝑛 magazine, and at the Burke Museum’s Bill Holm Center in Seattle.
This two-day workshop builds skills over time, and 𝐚𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐧𝐝𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐢𝐬 𝐫𝐞𝐪𝐮𝐢𝐫𝐞𝐝 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐛𝐨𝐭𝐡 𝐝𝐚𝐲𝐬. Previous weaving experience is helpful, but all skill levels are welcome.
A lunch break will take place at noon; participants may bring lunch, order delivery, or explore nearby restaurants. 🍽️
