Patrick, a former sitcom star living in Palm Springs, loves his niece, Maisie and nephew, Grant, but only for short visits. After his sister dies and their father enters rehab, he unexpectedly becomes the primary guardian of his niece and nephew. The summer in Palm Springs with the children forces Patrick to confront his own grief over the loss of his partner and to redefine his role as a family member.
