- **Event Description**: Healthy Living/Garden ClubAbout this EventHealthy Living/Garden Club will kick off on Thursday, May 7th for a 15 week program of learning and growing! (NO CLASS ON JULY 2nd). Last class August 20th. Class will be held from 6:15 -7:30pm. This is not a drop off event. An adult partner should register along with the individual with Down syndrome.Our theme will be “Strong and Healthy 2026!”Weeks will feature either a garden day or a healthy living topic/activity. Hands-on activities, field trips and service projects will be included. Every session will include Fitness and Positive Affirmations. Garden time includes learning about soil, planting, watering and harvesting. The tentative plan includes the following topics and activities: making garden tie dye t-shirts, découpage garden pots/ rock painting, discussions on building a balanced breakfast, destination pollination, food storage/reducing food waste, portion distortion and trying out new foods using unusual fruits and vegetables, etc.Garden sessions will be held outdoors, weather permitting. In case of rain, activities will be moved inside the church. Hands on activities and nutrition focused topics may be held inside or outside depending on activity. Participants are to wear gym shoes, dress for garden work and bring a water bottle.In addition to our harvest going to the food pantry, we plan to have a booth to sell some of our crafts at the church’s “Pumpkin Patch” event in October with the proceeds of the sales going to the food pantry.
