The 1898 Wilmington Massacre is one of the most infamous events in North Carolina history. Many are not aware, though, that other cities in the eastern half of the Tar Heel State had similar tensions, and one of these was Elizabeth City. Glen Bowman, PhD, of Elizabeth City State University, will explore the historical documents of the time in addressing whether something like the Wilmington Massacre could have happened in Elizabeth City.

The Museum will offer the History for Lunch program in-person and through Zoom. To attend the lecture virtually, register in here in advance to receive the meeting link: https://www.zoomgov.com/meeting/register/78vFAayQT6K0I63KGjcfjA#/registration. Registration is not required to attend the lecture in person.

The virtual program is supported by Friends of the Museum of the Albemarle.
