Come enjoy an exciting polo match! The use of polo matches gave the military a way to enjoy their horses and create healthy competition between the troops. The sport of polo has grown in the US since its introduction in 1875 by the British. In Ft Reno, there were once 14,000 horses stabled and a racetrack all for military use. 100 polo ponies were kept to keep a crack military polo team ready and in 1925, the national polo meet was hosted at the fort.
The Ft Reno grounds are home to the original barrack, stables and meeting halls from the 1900s. Our gift shop and museum are full of literture, photographs and memorbilia from many calvary exhibits with scout and saddle emphasis as well.
Each year we host a gathering of horsemen and women who compete in a Bivouac National Cavalry Competion. Clinics are provided and competition includes: jumping, riding, formation, horsemanship, mounted saber, bugle and the famed Bolte Cup. Contact Colonel Bill Tempero at the US Cavalry Museum for details to compete.
