Oktoberfest 2026 in Eisenach

Eisenach spends its free evenings on Oktoberfest. Early it's beer festivals and Bavarian nights, giant steins and live music, and later it's dancing, with the lederhosen left well alone. The food fills in everywhere else, bratwurst and pretzels on nearly every menu and long tables in the centre with the hills and the forest just beyond. Or is a good beer with friends the honest version? See what's on for Oktoberfest 2026 in Eisenach and book your tickets before they're gone.

Since 1810

Why it is called Oktoberfest when it happens in September

A horse race on a Munich meadow in 1810, watched by a royal couple and a cheering crowd

Before it was about beer, Oktoberfest was about a royal couple. Munich threw open a meadow to celebrate the 1810 wedding of Crown Prince Ludwig and Princess Therese, ending with a horse race watched by tens of thousands. The meadow took her name, the party became annual, and it later moved into September, when Bavaria's weather is at its most dependable.

Munich's 2026 Wiesn is on now: day 13 of 16, until October 4.
