Electrical leak location (ELL) testing on geomembranes has increasingly become the choice for owners, specifiers and geotechnical consultants around the world. ELL is a non-destructive, environmentally friendly, and most accurate way to identify leaks in a geomembrane containment system. There are different ELL methods and technologies used by operators to ensure leak-tight containment. One of the main requirements for ELL survey is that the material above and below the geomembrane is conductive so electrical potential can be created to detect the imperfections in a barrier system. This requirement is particularly challenging in double-lined systems where the interstitial layer isolates the primary geomembrane and makes it difficult to perform an ELL (spark/arc) test. Introducing GeoVolt, a new type of conductive media developed using a thin conductive film needle punched with staple fibers which creates a conductive composite layer that can be spark tested for defects underneath the primary geomembrane. GeoVolt is cost-effective and can provide a continuous conductive layer underneath a non-conducting geomembrane for electrical leak testing and detection.
