The Leach Quintet is led by drummer and composer Jacob Tanner, a high-energy musician inspired by legends such as Art Blakey, Takehiro Shimizu, Takashi Sasaki, and Yussef Dayes. Tanner’s approach blends classical harmony with jazz sensibilities, creating long, winding builds and dynamic shifts that keep audiences hooked.
With his band he founded, Pure Octane, Tanner has opened for Sungazer and performed at the Yardbird Suite under the “Foundation Presents” series, paying tribute to Art Blakey and the Jazz Messengers.
The Leach Quintet’s upcoming set draws from Indigo Jam Unit, Yussef Dayes, Nujabes, and original compositions. Rooted in spiritual jazz and vamp-driven grooves, the music explores single melodic ideas through evolving textures, shifting rhythms, and surges of energy.
