Alberta Council for the Ukrainian Arts Gallery
Everyone $50
Come and celebrate your home, your heritage, and your culture by creating your own inspirational painted landscape on fibre.
Darlene Bayley will lead participants through a one day workshop where she teaches techniques, instruction, design, colouring, and painting with acrylics on fabric and where each participant will be able to come away with a picture on fabric by the end of the day.
The workshop is great for ages 12 and up and for participants with no painting experience.
Darlene is a Mixed Media Artist who creates art that celebrates life with paint, fabric, and other mediums, whose work has won awards in several shows, and is in homes from coast to coast. Darlene has taught at Johnson’s Sewing Centre, Metro Continuing Education, and Central Sewing, as well as for several guilds.
Each participant will be provided with one painting kit which will include: an acrylic brush set (six brushes), a small paint pallet, a water container, a small mist bottle, a pencil to lightly draw idea, two pieces of watercolour paper, and an 18” X 18” piece of white cotton. Acrylic paints will also be provided as part of the kit for participants to share during the workshop.
Participants will need to bring a landscape picture/image for inspiration that reminds them of home, a shoebox (to take their kit home), an apron, a 20” X 20” piece of cardboard (to take painted fabric home), and a kitchen size garbage bag.
Focus on Fibre Art Association is a not-for-profit association that provides opportunities to members and member organizations for engagement with the larger fibre arts community. They offer workshops and events that promote skill development, and they host competitions and exhibitions that showcase the creativity of fibre artists.
Connections: FFAA & ACUA is a year-long celebration of ACUA’s 40th Anniversary. FFAA will be hosting their biannual juried competition in August/September and they are including a category for Family which includes ACUA members. Anyone participating in these connections workshops may consider submitting finished work to FFAA’s juried competition next year.
