The program will recount the tale of the Chinese lovers, Liang Shanbo and Zhu Yingtai, and their Western counterparts, the Shakespearean characters Romeo and Juliet, as depicted by Tchaikovsky, and Maria and Tony by Bernstein, in a fascinating storytelling of love and tragedy portrayed in music.The concerto will be interpreted by violinist Raymond Leung. CSO is proud to share the stage with special guests, the Edmonton Chinese Philharmonica Orchestra and conductor Jason Wong.Pre-concert chat at 2:15 p.m. with Professor Christopher LupkeChristopher Lupke is Professor of Chinese Cultural Studies in the Department of East Asian Studies at the University of Alberta.
