"description": "My mum made all my dresses when I was a baby and then taught me to sew when I was 14 (it was a pink and grey checkered broderie anglaise smock dress and I wore it until it fell apart). I then went on to fashion at college and I dreamed of studying Contour Fashion at university but fell flat when I didn't get in. It stayed a hobby for years, but eventually my 20s took over and my sewing machine was put away.Fast forward a career in software testing and then charity work; in 2023 my husband and I moved to Edinburgh and had our son that November. The first year as a mum was a blur of love, milk, cuddles and pram walks. I was diagnosed with postpartum OCD, and through therapy I reconnected with my creativity, and in particular my sewing machine. I began making his clothes after feeling uninspired by the narrow selection and drab colour palette of clothes available for boys in shops. This hobby grew into Sleepy Rabbit, which was born in July 2025 - my small, slow and sustainable toddler fashion brand that doesn't buy into gender stereotypes. I love creating long lasting, fun and most of all, one of a kind pieces that are as unique as the wee one wearing them.Everything I make is made from up-cycled second hand clothing, scrap fabrics, remnants, deadstock or second hand fabrics. I only choose fabrics that are of good quality as well as fun, unique and interesting. No fabric is wasted - scraps are sewn together to make new fabric and smaller scraps are used to adorn sweatshirts as fun appliqués.I use fabrics that have been saved from landfill, so it is my hope for the clothes I sell that they don't end up there. Once your children grow out of them please pass them on, sell them on vinted, give them to charity, or keep them for future generations. Kids clothes take a lot of wear and tear; tumbles can lead to holes and tears so if you can, patch them up and embrace the individuality."
