The talk will consider how legal frameworks govern the relationships between musicians, performers, publishers, and record labels, with particular attention to the distribution and exploitation of rights in an increasingly platform-driven market.A central focus of the seminar will be the question of fairness in contractual relations within the music sector. The discussion will address issues of bargaining power, remuneration, transparency, and the protection of creators in their dealings with commercial intermediaries. The book will be available open access.About the speakerDr Jozefien Vanherpe is Assistant Professor at the Centre for IT & IP Law (CiTiP), KU Leuven, within the Faculty of Law and Criminology. She studied law at KU Leuven and completed an LLM at the University of Cambridge, where she graduated with First Class honours. Prior to joining academia, she practised as an associate specialising in intellectual property law with leading Belgian law firms.
