Inclusive, tauma -informed practice for all LGBTQIA+ folx!About this EventMay scheduleAbout the eventWe hope to create a yoga community for LGBTQIA+ folks to enjoy group practice and connect with others.Our classes will follow a focus on finding some time for you, away from judgment or comparisons.We will invite you to take some time to notice how you feel and move in any way that feels right for you, with options to connect with your breath.We encourage choice in your practice, and there are never any expectations on how you practice that day.The classes will be run by various members of our teaching team, usually with one leading and one supporting teacher.These classes are for LGBTQIA+ folks who would like to practice yoga at reduced cost. Open to all levels of experience. We will have around a 60 minute movement and meditation practice, followed by some optional time (around 30 minutes) to gather for a tea and chat. Group size will be up to 15 people, plus 1 leading and 1 supporting teacher.You should be able to get yourself up and down from the floor, as we do not have any chairs at the studio (unless you have a wheelchair). Please get in touch with us before class if you intend to practice in your chair, so the teachers can be prepared. If you are unsure if the class will meet your access needs or if you have any other questions about the practice, please get in touch .This is a zero-tolerance space for transphobia, homophobia, racism, ableism, body shaming, or any other discriminatory or harmful behaviour.PricingWe offer tiered ticket options to help make our classes as financially accessible as possible. Please pay what you are able - something that isn’t an overstretch for you, but that helps keep our sliding scale sustainable so we can continue offering these classes.Here’s a guide to help you choose:Free ticket: Please select this if you would not otherwise be able to attend a paid class. For example, if you are unwaged, have no financial resources, or are navigating the immigration system. See below for further terms and conditions for these tickets.Low income ticket: Please choose this if you are on a low income or receiving financial support (e.g. universal credit, disability benefits or similar)General admission ticket: Please choose this if you can comfortably meet your basic needs (e.g. rent, bills, food) and have some expendable income.Pay it forward ticket: Please choose this if you can comfortably meet your needs and would like to help cover the cost for someone who otherwise couldn’t attend.Your donation supports our community teachers and helps cover venue hire so we can continue offering these inclusive spaces.Refunds are eligible up to 24 hours before class start time - we will struggle to fill your space with short notice. If you are unable to make a class and are willing to offer your ticket to someone else please feel free to email us or share on our Whatsapp Community.Three free tickets are available for every class, generously sponsored by the National Lottery Community Fund. These free tickets are intended to be used by anyone for whom the cost of a paid ticket is too high a barrier to accessing the class.We anticipate that these tickets will be popular so we ask that you are respectful of the intention of these. If you find yourself no longer able to attend a session, please still cancel your free ticket through Eventbrite as this allows someone else to use the space instead. Our cancellation policy remains 24 hours for free tickets. If you hold a free ticket and cancel within 24 hours of class or do not show up to class more than twice, we will send you a reminder message of our free ticket policy. If you cancel or no show three times, we will unfortunately not be able to support you with free tickets any further. Thank you for your understanding!Venue and getting hereWe will be holding the sessions at Yellow Bamboo Yoga in Portobello. There are bus links close to the studio for buses 12, 21, and 49.There is some on-street parking close to the studio as well.If you’re coming from Portobello High Street, head along Baileyfield Road and continue past the residential properties; the entrance will be on your left-hand side.If you’re coming from the opposite direction (towards Portobello), the entrance will be on your right-hand side just before the residential stretch.The studio is on the ground floor, entrance door width:to be confirmed, with no steps.There is one gender-neutral toilet available, without grab rails and a small cupboard with a sink and kettle.When arriving at the building, we will aim to be at the door to welcome you in. Please arrive 5-10 minutes before the class so we can start on time.What to bringMats, blocks, blankets and bolsters will be provided. We suggest you wear comfy clothes you can freely move in (joggers, shorts, T-shirts etc). You are welcome to bring a water bottle if you'd like, plus any other item you'd like to have with you during class.Sensory informationWe will usually have some quiet music playing during the class. The space where we'll be practising has windows so the studio will be naturally lit for daytime classes, with warm low lighting for evening classes.
