Higher English offers learners the opportunity to develop detailed and complex language skills in the contexts of literature, language and media. This Course or its Units may provide progression to other qualifications in English or related areas and to further study, employment and/or training.
It is designed to be accessible and provides learners with the opportunity to develop skills in listening, talking, reading and writing, which are essential for learning, life and work, and to develop their ability to communicate their thoughts and feelings and respond to those of other people.
The Course is made up of two mandatory Units - English: Analysis and Evaluation (Higher) 9 SCQF credit points and either: English: Creation and Production (Higher) 9 SCQF credit points or English: Creation and Production with a Scottish Context (Higher) - and a Course assessment.
English: Analysis and Evaluation (Higher)
The purpose of this Unit is to provide learners with the opportunity to develop listening and reading skills in the contexts of literature, language and media. Learners develop the skills needed to understand, analyse and evaluate detailed and complex texts.
English: Creation and Production (Higher)
The purpose of this Unit is to provide learners with the opportunity to develop talking and writing skills in a wide range of contexts. Learners develop the skills needed to create and produce detailed and complex language in both written and oral forms.
Entry to this Course is at the discretion of the centre. However, learners would normally be expected to have attained the skills, knowledge and understanding required by the following or equivalent qualifications and/or experience: National 5 English Course or relevant Component Units.
There is an additional fee of £37.50 required in order to sit the final exam this will be payable in December.

Are there ID or minimum age requirements to enter the event?
ID is required if you have booked a discounted rate ticket. We will need proof of age or proof of receipt on benefits.
There is not set minimum age to attend our classes - but anyone must be able to fully engage with the content of the class and we recommend children under 16 only attend classes when they are coming with an adult who is also taking part in the class.
What's the refund policy?
Refunds are available up to 1 week before the start of the programme.
Do I have to bring my printed ticket to the event?
It is useful to have EITHER an e ticket or a print out to confirm a place, but we will have a full list of the people who have booked and paid, so any form of ID will ususally suffice.
Can I update my registration information?
Yes, you are free to change your information, however if your booking ends up changing price, please contact us for help.
Is my registration fee or ticket transferrable?
Yes, but please contact us if the person you want to transfer your booking to is not in the same price bracket as you are.
Is it ok if the name on my ticket or registration doesn't match the person who attends?
Please contact us before the class to arrange a ticket transfer.
