- **Event Description**: Join us at The Open Door Edinburgh for FENCE, a visually stunning multimedia poetry reading by Tim Cresswell.About this EventFence is an epic of fragments that is at once beautiful and beautifully strange. In his exploration of the vast, frozen Svalbard islands, poet and geographer Tim Cresswell has created a kind of exploratory poetry whose taut, minimalist lyric synthesises subjects as diverse as history, politics and Arctic ecology. Echoing the mournful atmospherics of the great Anglo-Saxon elegies, this book-length poem is a powerful meditation on places that are slipping away, where ‘compass gone haywire / so north."A spectral volume, born of a fence that separates nowhere from the now and here, deep in the high Arctic” --Robert MacFarlaneThe reading will be followed by an Open Mic poetry session, hosted by Catherine Wilson Garry of Push the Boat Out’s monthly Rock the Boat poetry open mic. Open mic sign-up will begin at 7:00pm.A selection of eco poetry and other poetry titles may be available to purchase on the night, courtesy of Lighthouse Books.Suggested donation £15 (Collected at the door) but pay what you can, no minimum, please come enjoy!This is a fundraising event in support of The Open Door’s local day service for older adults. Donations will be matched during The Big Give campaign week.About Tim CresswellTim Cresswell is a geographer-poet and author of three collections of poetry. The most recent of these is Plastiglomerate (2020, Penned in the Margins) which was longlisted for the Laurel Prize. His work has been published widely in magazines on both sides of the Atlantic including in Poetry Wales, Rialto, Gutter, The North, Magma, The Seattle Review and Salamander. He is the Chair of the Board for the StAnza poetry festival – Scotland’s international poetry festival, based in St Andrews. He lives and works in Edinburgh where he is the Ogilvie Professor of Geography.About Catherine Wilson GarryCatherine Wilson Garry is another Edinburgh-based poet and writer. Her debut poetry pamphlet Another Word for Home is Blackbird was published in 2023 by Stewed Rhubarb Press. She is the winner of the Janet Coats Memorial Prize and has been highly commended by the Edwin Morgan Poetry Award 2024.
