Take a tour of our labs, chat with our researchers, or join a talk to learn about the cutting-edge research we carry out.----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------We will be running building tours and lab visits throughout the day. Visitors will have a chance to view the labs and research facilities, including the new 4D Cellular Medicine Building. You can register at reception on arrival. (To avoid having visitors miss out on a place due to no-shows, tour places cannot be booked in advance. If you have any concerns about tour accessibility or would like to request any specific accommodations for a tour, please email PublicEngagement@igc.ed.ac.uk.)----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------We will have a programme of family-friendly drop-in activities running throughout the day. Explore our giant cell, build your own double-stranded DNA bracelet, or view cells down the microscope.We will also be running our workshop Zebrafish! A Splash of Science and Art, exploring the use and care of zebrafish in research. This workshop is suitable for ages 5-10. This workshop is free, but requires advance booking. You can book a place here.----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Our researcher talks will highlight some of the research going on in the institute along with ways to get involved, showcase the work of our graduate students in flash talks, and discuss life as a scientist in our ‘Day in the life’ session. A full programme of talks will be added soon.As part of EMS 300, we are delighted to host a talk on the history of the Western General site by local historian Jim Slaven. This talk is free, but due to anticipated interested we are asking visitors to book a space in advance. You can book a space for this talk here.2026 Theme - Heritage at Risk: Revive, Resist, ReimagineOur institute’s story of biomedical research stretches back to the post-war period, with the facilities and remit of the institute evolving in response to new scientific discoveries and population health needs. However, the history of the site itself goes back further, starting as a Victorian poorhouse. We are delighted to have the opportunity to share the story of our site, and to welcome visitors into IGC, which represents the newest chapter in this history of social and medical care within the community.
