Mending textiles is a popular and effective way to reduce waste and pollution. Every culture has its unique methods, and this workshop will introduce you to Boro, the Japanese art of mending. This tradition utilizes the sashiko stitch, a simple yet beautiful technique to renew fabric.
The repetitive movements of sashiko stitching can also promote mindfulness, offering a chance for your body to reset and activate its natural healing and renewal processes.
What you will learn:
All equipment and materials are provided, but feel free to bring your own fabric or garments to mend. This short workshop will quickly deepen your textile skills, equipping you to confidently tackle larger projects.
About the facilitator
The session will be led by Remode Collective. Refreshments will be provided, and there will be an opportunity to see related books from the Library’s collection.
