It celebrates the sustainable model of libraries and how we can assist others in our communities to cut their carbon emissions.Please join us for two fun, friendly and interactive mornings, sharing green ideas with fellow library professionals.The course covers:An introduction to climate science and the impact of climate changeClimate justice and the benefits of taking actionThe UN Sustainable Development Goals.The national and international contextCalculating carbon footprintsCase studies of how libraries are acting to cut carbon emissionsHow libraries can support sustainable communitiesSpace to develop your own actions to cut carbon emissionsThroughout the course, you will be encouraged to share your own experiences and ideas, committing to actions that are relevant to you and your organisation. This course has been validated by the Carbon Literacy Project and learners will gain Carbon Literacy certification on successful submission of their participant evidence forms.Please join us as we come together to grow our environmental knowledge and become certified Carbon Literate Librarians!This workshop takes place across two sessions:Part One, Tuesday 22nd September 2026, 9.30am-1pmPart Two, Wednesday 23rd September 2026, 9.30am-1pmPlease note that you must be able to attend both parts of the training in order to be accredited as a Carbon Literate librarian.If you would prefer to be invoiced for the certification fee, please email carbonliteracy@nls.uk to arrange this.The training will take place in the Boardroom at National Library of Scotland's building on George IV Bridge, Edinburgh. Please arrive between 9.15 and 9.30am and trainer will be waiting at the main entrance to welcome you.
