About the event

WWII POWs In the Valley and the Nation

For the Shenandoah County Historical Society’s September 16th program, historian Greg L. Owen will focus on WWII German prisoners of war (POWs) in Rockingham County and the Italian diplomats held at the Shenvalee in New Market.

Owen will also provide a detailed overview of the causes, processes, implementation and effects of the US War Department’s plan, which resulted in the presence of nearly 400,000 POWs inside the continental United States, 1942-1946.

Free and open to the public. Refreshments following.
