A progressive neurodegenerative disorder caused by the breakdown and loss of brain cells, Parkinson’s Disease primarily affects motor control, leading to symptoms such as tremors, muscle rigidity and slowed movement, along with non-motor symptoms including cognitive changes, depression and sleep disturbances.

To help raise awareness throughout the Rio Grande Valley, South Texas Health System will host its first annualParkinson’s Walk & Talk community event during Parkinson’s Disease Awareness Month. 

Designed to highlight the importance of staying active while living with Parkinson’s, the event will provide a supportive environment where individuals and families can connect, share experiences and build community. Participants will also have the opportunity to visit educational stations led by occupational, physical and speech therapists, who will offer practical strategies to help manage Parkinson’s symptoms and support overall quality of life.

Every step represents hope for those living with Parkinson’s disease. Join us in supporting Parkinson’s care.
