In less than two months, children across the Rio Grande Valley will be heading to the classroom for the 2025-26 school year, with some of them heading to a new campus and others preparing to start school for the first time.
So, it’s understandable that students will soon be feeling a mix of emotions about the new school year, including excitement, nervousness and even some anxiety.
And they’re not alone.
In the United States, around 89% of parents experience stress related to back-to-school preparations, according to Parents.com, with about 60% of them driven to tears by the pressure.
Unfortunately, back-to-school readiness is vital for children's academic, social and emotional development, setting them up for success in the classroom and beyond.
It’s more than purchasing the required school supplies; it entails preparing students for the academic, social, emotional and logistical aspects to ensure a smooth transition and a positive start to the school year. Preparing your child for academic success also means focusing on their physical health. From managing schedules to sleep routines to staying healthy and prepared, it is important to focus not just on academic success but overall well-being.
Parents can help ease the back-to-school transitions by focusing on their children’s physical, mental and emotional readiness, including scheduling necessary health appointments, reinforcing good hygiene practices, establishing routines and expectations and teaching coping mechanisms.
To help Rio Grande Valley parents get their kids ready to head back to the classroom, South Texas Health System Children’s will dedicate its latest Let’s Talk Children’s webinar to back-to-school readiness. During the online seminar, parents and caregivers will learn practical tips, routines and strategies to help their children thrive in the new school year.
Broadcast live via South Texas Health System Children’s Facebook page, the online seminar will highlight valuable information on everything from required vaccinations to the importance of consistent sleep schedules and more.
