ICD Retreats inspire youth to see diabetes as a source of strength and a positive force in their lives. Whether you’re gathered around the campfire or out on the trail, you’ll connect with others who understand your journey, build lasting friendships, and grow skills that help you lead within the diabetes community - or simply become your best self.
Who can join
Open to high school and post-secondary students, as well as young adults (ages 14+) living with type 1 diabetes. Friends without T1D are welcome too!
What to expect
Set among beautiful hardwood and pine forests, Sugar Valley Farm offers the perfect blend of nature, adventure, and connection. Participants can look forward to outdoor team challenges, nature hikes, campfire reflections, and hands-on activities that blend fun, skill-building, and diabetes management in a supportive environment. You’ll have the chance to explore the trails and waterways, learn from mentors, and take part in group discussions that encourage confidence and resilience - all while having a great time outdoors.

About Us
ICD is a leader in exercise and diabetes education, helping thousands of people with type 1 gain confidence and real-world management skills through active, hands-on experiences.
Support
You’ll learn from expert guides, challenge yourself safely, and discover what you’re truly capable of. We welcome participants with food allergies, celiac disease, or other physical or mental health challenges - just let us know how we can help make your experience great.
Diabetes Management
We'll meet you where you are at and support your blood sugar management with adventure and activity in the mix. Learn from mentors and peers in an inclusive, non-judgemental environment.
Gear
Registered participants will receive a packing list and detailed event info in their confirmation email. Proper hiking shoes, a rain jacket, and athletic wear are required. Specialized gear such as backpacks, premium sleeping bags, and headlamps may be available upon request.
Costs and Inclusions
Your ticket includes accommodations, all meals and snacks, mentorship, and empowerment with the ICD team.
