This compelling mini-documentary explores the remarkable story of Joshua Glover, whose arrest under the Fugitive Slave Act sparked a major constitutional and political conflict in Wisconsin and helped shape national debates over slavery, liberty, and federal authority in the years leading up to the Civil War.Following the screening, audience members will have the opportunity to participate in a discussion featuring Michael Jahr, director and producer of the film; Robert Baker, featured in the film and author of The Rescue of Joshua Glover: A Fugitive Slave, the Constitution, and the Coming of the Civil War; and Diana Schaub, Professor Emerita of Political Science at Loyola University Maryland and a nationally recognized scholar of American political thought.Admission is free, but tickets are required. This event is co-sponsored by Liberty at Stake Productions, the Chippewa Valley Museum, and the Menard Center for Constitutional Studies at UW–Eau Claire.
