- **Event Name**: PCCOA's Flag Retirement Ceremony
- **Event Start and End Date**: Fri, 12 Jun, 2026 at 01:30 pm
- **Event Description**: A flag retirement ceremony is a respectful, dignified way to dispose of a worn, tattered, or unserviceable United States flag. According to the U.S. Flag Code, when a flag is no longer fit to serve, it should be destroyed in a dignified manner, with burning being the preferred and most common method. The ceremony itself is highly symbolic:

Preparation: The flags are inspected to confirm they are unserviceable and carefully folded into a traditional triangle.

The Fire: A modest, blazing fire is prepared. The ceremony typically involves a color guard and may include the reciting of the Pledge of Allegiance or a solemn reading.

Retirement: The flags are placed into the fire respectfully while participants salute and observe a moment of silence to honor the flag and what it represents.

Completion: The fire is monitored until the flag is completely reduced to ashes, ensuring the remains can no longer be recognized as a flag

There will be a speaker and a ceremony that shows the proper way to retire the flag. We ask that anyone bring their torn or tattered flags here to be disposed of properly.

All are welcome and encouraged to attend.
