About the Presenter
Bill Streever, a biologist, is the award winning and bestselling nature writer behind In Oceans Deep, Cold, Heat, And Soon I Heard a Roaring Wind, and, most recently, A Sea Full of Turtles. He began his working life as a scallop diver in Cobscook Bay before moving on to commercial diving in the oilfields of the Gulf of Mexico and the South China Sea. In his late twenties, he left the diving industry to study applied ecology. As a scientist, he worked on issues ranging from the evolution of cave crayfish to the restoration of tundra wetlands to the ecological effects of underwater noise. For the past decade he has lived aboard the cruising sailboat Rocinante (currently in Mexico’s Sea of Cortez) with his wife, marine biologist and photographer Lisanne Aerts. The two of them recently purchased land near Pembroke and plan to divide their time between Maine and their boat. When Bill is not busy fixing the boat, he spends his time sailing, diving, hiking, rowing a dinghy, paddling a kayak, seeing the world through the twin lenses of science and history, and, of course, writing. One hundred percent of his writing proceeds support conservation projects.
