Obviously, at this time, we cannot know what proposals the Trump administration will be making. But whatever they are, they will have a significant impact of estate and income tax planning for individuals. Jonathan anticipates that there is an excellent chance the scheduled reduction in 2026 in the large (nearly $14 million) gift, estate and generation-skipping transfer tax exemptions will not occur. But if they are going to happen, he will discuss steps for clients to use them before the reduction occurs. He will also discuss probably the most significant tax saving measure that rises in estate planning: the income tax free step up in basis. He will discuss how one can obtain this step up even for assets not in the taxpayer's gross estate (if the assets have been transferred to a trust before death). And Jonathan will also discuss the most important financial factor for all Americans.
