Cable started his career after graduating from Cambridge in1966 as Treasury Finance Officer for the Kenyan Government. He then went on to lecture in economics at Glasgow University from before working in a range of senior economic and foreign policy roles, culminating in becoming Shell International’s Chief Economist in 1995.

An internationally renowned auther, Cable predicted the financial crash of 2008 in the House of Commons as LibDem MP for Twickenham.

He was appointed Secretary of State for Business, Innovation and Skills in May 2010 alongside his role as President of the Board of Trade.
