TRINARY SYSTEM / SAPLING

Trinary System is a Boston-based experimental rock trio led by guitarist and composer Roger Clark Miller (Mission of Burma). Formed in the early 2010s, the band blends minimalism, psychedelia, and post-prog structures with raw indie rock energy. Their releases—from the 2016 EP Amplify the Amplifiers to the albums Lights in the Center of Your Headand The Hard Machine—have earned wide critical praise for their intensity, precision, and swagger. Trinary System features Miller alongside drummer Larry Dersch and percussionist Andrew Willis.

Once declared “the best band in America” by a heavily inebriated gentleman at a pub gig, Sapling is a New England–based art rock band blending pop hooks with noisy, chaotic energy. Known for lively, unpredictable live shows, they’ve been compared to Sleater-Kinney, Roxy Music, and Swans. The band has released two albums—No Sequoia (2020) and amor fati (2023)—both earning award nominations and year-end praise. Sapling is based between Providence, RI and Worcester, MA.
