# Event Details - **Event Name**: BMC Hill Walking Skills: Incident Management and Rights of Way - **Event Start and End Date**: Sun, 22 Feb, 2026 at 09:50 am – Sun, 22 Feb, 2026 at 01:00 pm - **Event Description**: BMC Midlands, Hill Walking Rep, Chris Sweetman, has extended knowledge of navigation and is a Fellow of the Royal Institute of Navigation.About this EventYou are invited to join a peer-led training activity, hosted by BMC Midlands Hill Walking Rep, Christopher SweetmanThis training activity will discuss incident management and implement resolutions whilst walking in a lowland area utilising the local Rights of Way (RoW) system. The event will include coping with a Right of Way diversion and a Right of Way on the map but not on the ground - we will use the new feature on OS Maps App to report this. We examine that Rights of Way at times are not accurately recorded and represented on the map and how do we cope with this. Also, crossing main A-roads and how to follow these safely using The Highway Code to connect with the RoW system. The route includes passing a couple of unique features - worth coming along just to see these! Finally, we discuss the advantages of completing a ‘recce’ to aid in the development of a risk assessment. Although this activity takes place in a lowland area, Rights of Way occur in both hills and mountain areas of England and Wales, and the methods deployed on this event are transferable to these environments.  We’re excited to welcome you for a memorable day in the outdoors! Important information: The A6006 will be closed from Monday 6th October 2025 until Monday 20th July 2026 due to the replacement of a railway bridge near Sutton Bonington.
