The Long Island Collection invites the community to visit for a drop-in pop-up exhibit. This informal event is part of a series that encourages visitors to explore and learn about items in the Long Island Collection.
This exhibit will focus on maps in the Long Island Collection, some of which date to the Colonial Era, and feature extensive decoration. Our local atlases, which begin in 1873, show property lines and homeowners' names. The exhibit will include regional maps as early as 1635 and mid-century cottage summer rental maps. Also on exhibit will be the recently acquired John Montressor map of New York, Long Island, and the Hudson Valley, which is one of the first maps of the area drawn after American independence was declared.
No registration is necessary. This exhibit will be held on Wednesday, July 16th, from 4 to 7pm, and librarians will be available to answer questions. Due to popular demand, the exhibit will be open for viewing throughout the weekend.
