Filipino food is one of the fastest-rising culinary trends in America, but many don’t know the stories and traditions that make it so special.

In this engaging talk, Gentile — cookbook author, Food  Network and Hulu alum, and proud East Brunswick chef —  shares her journey from her  grandmother’s kitchen in Manila  to the national TV spotlight.  

Along the way, she’ll reveal how  Filipino flavors are shaping  America’s food scene, and how  you can bring their joy and  connection into your own home. 

Gentile’s culinary journey began in her Lola’s kitchen in Manila, where she learned the value of fresh ingredients and the joy of cooking for others. After moving to New York and working in some of the city’s most prestigious restaurants, she brought her love of Filipino and Asian cuisines to East Brunswick, founding Maricel’s Kitchen in 2017. At this location, she offers authentic Filipino dining, cooking classes and catering.

In 2025, she released Maricel's Simply Asian Cookbook. The book features incredible Filipino, Cantonese, Japanese, Thai, Vietnamese and Korean dishes.

Following her presentation, copies of her book will be available for purchase during a book signing.

This program is free and open to the public courtesy of the Friends of the Library. Established in 1967, the Friends work to support programs and services at the library. Membership information is available at www.ebpl.org/friends.
