Wound Workshop: More Than A Bandage Solution (Ballina)

Wound Workshop: More Than A Bandage Solution (Ballina)

Chronic wounds is an under-recognised public health issue, with more than 400 000 Australians suffering from a chronic wound at any given time. Chronic wounds are defined as wounds that have failed to heal, and are often impacted by other factors including poor nutritional status, infection or venous insufficiency.

As the Australian population continues to age and the prevalence of vascular disease, obesity and type 2 diabetes continues to grow, the prevalence of wounds such as pressure wounds and diabetic ulcers will also continue to increase. It is widely acknowledged that many wounds can be healthed through best practice measures and knowledge, but many individuals continue to suffer from chronic wounds with up to 70% of patients never receiving the most appropriate treatment.Majority of chronic wounds are now managed in the community rather than the hospital setting. However, inconsistencies in wound management practice and outdated methods of practice are contributng factors to poor health outcome. Therefore, it is essential pharmacists continue to update and improve their knowledge to achieve optimal health outcomes.

This one day workshop will be delivered by Gary Bain, an accredited wound care nurse with more than 30 years of experience. Gary currently works in private practice, as an educator and nurse consultant in wound management as well as providing clnical support to patients and clinicians across various health sectors.
