Pull up a seat in our freshly remodeled barn and enjoy hand-battered fried cod, baked and roasted potatoes, pasties, rye bread, slaw and—of course—tartar sauce as you make the most of this delicious Wisconsin tradition. Pair your meal of choice with a signature Wisconsin-style Brandy Old Fashioned or grab a cold pint at the historic Wittnebel’s Tavern. Need somewhere to take in the view? Head out to our new Biergarten for a patio seat at Old World. Did we mention we’ve got some iconic Fish Fry and Old Fashioned merch for sale?

Fish fries at Old World don’t require a ticket for entry—all visitors attending during General Admission on Fish Fry Fridays can buy a fish fry meal at the Clausing Barn Cafe and drinks at Wittnebel’s Tavern.

𝗔𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗟𝗼𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻:
Old World Wisconsin includes 60 authentically restored historic homes, farms, stores and workshops—and a fully operational 1930s tavern. Each region features a distinct set of stories that invite you to experience the hopes and dreams of those who came before us. From the 1840s to the 1940s, you’ll find a true panorama of early Wisconsin history, covering more than 70 years and many cultures, including African American, Danish, Finnish, Hessian, Irish, Norwegian, Polish, Pomeranian and Yankee.

Old World Wisconsin first opened in 1976. Researchers traveled throughout Wisconsin in search of historic buildings crafted by the first generation of Wisconsin immigrants and migrants. From Lake Superior to the Illinois border, and from the Mississippi River to Lake Michigan, historians documented countless historic farmhouses, outbuildings and small-town structures. Once research was complete, the meticulous construction of Old World Wisconsin began. Piece by piece, workers carefully dismantled historic structures from around the state and reconstructed them in their new home.

𝗞𝗻𝗼𝘄 𝗕𝗲𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗬𝗼𝘂 𝗚𝗼:
Guests will choose from one of two meals: a 2-piece battered & fried cod meal with choice of roasted Yukon gold potatoes or baked potato, and a pasty meal with roasted potatoes. Both come with sides of rye bread, coleslaw and tartar sauce.

Signature Old Fashioneds and other beverages will be available for additional purchase.

Brandy Old Fashioned cheesecake and other desserts will be available for additional purchase.

The Clausing Barn is located within Old World Wisconsin in the Kettle Moraine State Forest. The larger site features gravel roads, rough and hilly terrain. Our staff recommends dressing in layers and choosing sturdy footwear for your walk from the parking lot to the barn.

Onsite vehicle parking is available for FREE at Old World Wisconsin. The parking lot can accommodate large vehicles, RVs, and buses.

Modern restrooms, changing rooms, and water fountains are available on site.

No pets are allowed.

Because of the historic nature of the buildings, not all areas are ADA accessible. Guests with additional mobility needs are encouraged to contact the site directly at 262-594-6301 or oww@wisconsinhistory.org.
