Join us Saturday, July 19th to take a walk with geologist Michael Porter and local naturalist/forester Joe Panci.
Mike Porter received his PhD in Sedimentary Geology from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. After 33 years in worldwide exploration and development activities, he returned to the Northwoods in retirement to enjoy the glacial landscape and all the recreational activities the region has to offer.
Joe Panci is a local naturalist and forester who graduated in Forestry and Environmental Education from Michigan State University and has worked as a Natural Resource Educator and Outdoor Instructor with Trees For Tomorrow, Conserve School and the U.S. Forest Service during his career.
While Mike explains the rocks below our feet and the glacial formation of this northern forest, Joe will be there to help us connect our region's geologic history with an understanding of how the forests became what they are today. From glacial landscapes to soil types to dominant tree species, we'll touch on it all!
