Wild about Brain Health – tree ID

‘Wild about Brain Health’ is a scheme of activities and workshops which aim to reduce and identify dementia risk by promoting healthier lifestyles, through nature-based activities. 

The sessions, which form part of a co-operative project between Durham Wildlife Trust and Alzheimer's Research UK, offer a range of outdoor engagement activities and discussions, aimed at those who may be experiencing or are interested in issues related to dementia and cardiovascular health. These will include bird nest box making, dead-hedge laying, habitat development and helping to develop a tree ID trail.

The final session in the series will focus on tree ID. We will walk to one of the quieter areas of the reserve where we will learn about ways to identify tree species. We will also make some ID tags to hang on the trees to help others to improve their tree ID skills. 

Following this, we will return to the centre for a tea or coffee and a workshop discussion where we will consider ways we can use outdoor interactions, lifestyle options and life hacks to help reduce the risk of dementia. We will also look at outdoor engagement as a coping mechanism to help promote brain health.

By the end of the session we will share a range of suggestions and ideas to help people improve their brain health.
