# Event Details - **Event Name**: Seasons of Connection – Nature, Community & Wellbeing: ‘Mazing Minibeasts - **Event Start and End Date**: Fri, 08 May, 2026 at 10:00 am – Fri, 08 May, 2026 at 12:00 pm (+01:00) - **Event Description**: These sessions provide activities, stimuli and workshops to engage with nature and learn more about the world around us.About this EventSeasons of Connection is a scheme of activities and workshops which aims to offer residents of the Coalfields area access to a better understanding of the local environment through nature-based activities.The events, which form part of a co-operative project between Durham Wildlife Trust and Sunderland City Council, comprise 15 seasonal sessions, through which participants will reconnect with nature and each other, improving wellbeing and confidence. Activities include guided walks, wildlife surveys, crafting, nature journaling, and light conservation tasks, all themed around the changing seasons.The May sessions take us into the woods to look for some beastly surprises! We will survey the woodland floor to see what mini-beasts we can find.We will investigate the log-piles and undergrowth of the woodland to look for a range of invertebrates and amphibians. Looking out for woodlice, centipedes, worms newts and toads – we will consider why these amazing creatures we dismiss as mini-beasts are amazing, beguiling and more important than you might think.Following this, we will return to the centre for a tea or coffee and to discuss the importance of what we have found and consider its significance in the context of the wider reserve – clue – no invertebrates = larger animals or birds so (as with the April pond dips) the findings really ARE important!
