ERUUF’S Jazz Vespers – An Alternative to the Standard Holiday Fare
The Eno River Unitarian Universalist Fellowship, or ERUUF as it is lovingly called, once again brings to Durham an evening of music, poetry, and song in this year’s Jazz Vespers worship service. Jazz for the Holidays will be held on Wednesday, December 10, 2025 at 7 PM.
Rev. Jacqueline Brett, Lead Minister at ERUUF will lead this annual evening service, featuring jazz vocalist Myk’l Hanna and friends. Join us for an evening of contemplation, candlelighting, and the practices of Presence, Grace, Peace, and Hope as we slow down from holiday busy-ness and press pause on anxious times. A small holiday reception with cider and cookies will be held following the service.
This worship event is free and open to the public, and all are welcome. Jazz for the Holidays will also be live-streamed on Facebook and YouTube. Visit www.eruuf.org for more information.
What is “Vespers”?
Vespers is an ancient Christian tradition of Evening Prayer, consisting of psalms, hymns, chants, prayers, and readings from the scriptures. Today, many different spiritual communities have embraced vespers and will often include contemporary innovations such as congregational singing, readings from a variety of texts, poetry, silent meditation, or contemplation. With Jazz Vespers, an ethos of freedom and conscious choice provides a spiritual opportunity to hold improvisation as a metaphor for what it means to live in community.
