Narbi & Mark will talk about the curatorial ambition behind GOING BACK BROCKENS and the challenges of presenting the work across County Durham in unconventional spaces. Marking 40 years since the end of the miners’ strike, the exhibition sees Mark and Narbi explore the post-strike landscape of County Durham through a combination of sound and paintings which explores not only what was lost, but what remains, what has changed, and how people continue to define their places and memories decades after the last coal was mined. Mark Hudson’s sound installations revisit interviews he conducted with the people of Horden and Easington in 1991–92, which formed the basis of his book. These excerpts - many focused on the still-raw memory of the 1984–85 Miners’ Strike - are paired with a new body of work by Narbi Price: 40 paintings depicting landscapes across County Durham as they appear today, forty years after the strike and the decline of the region’s defining industry.
