- **Event Description**: Abilities Tennis Volunteer Training on the CourtAbout this EventThank you for your interest in volunteering for the Abilities Tennis clinics. Abilities Tennis of North Carolina (ATANC) provides free tennis programming for athletes with intellectual disabilities ages 8 and up. Our mission is to promote fitness, foster community and champion inclusion for athletes with intellectual disabilities through adaptive tennis. Volunteers play an important role in making these clinics possible for the athletes.Spring clinics will meet on Sundays from 4:00 - 5:00 PM at Hollow Rock Racquet and Swim Club. On Sunday, March 8 there will be a Volunteer Training from 3:00 - 5:00 PM.  From 3:00 PM - 4:00 PM, we will discuss how to work with athletes with intellectual disabilities and best practices for teaching and volunteering on the tennis court. From 4:00 PM - 5:00 PM, we'll continue the training, but with the Abilities Tennis athletes during their clinic. Abilities athletes range in skill level with some learning how to hold and swing a racquet to hit red-dot starter balls and others playing full court with regular yellow balls.To sign up to volunteer at the clinics, please use this form: Please take a few minutes to watch ATANC's Volunteer Overview video, which helps explain the way clinics are run and how volunteers support the program.Head coaches Gonzo Arriagiagada and Carl Laird will be at the clinics each week to direct the volunteers and run the clinic.Wear comfortable clothes and tennis shoes and bring water, sunscreen, and racquet if you have one.Thank you again for your support.
