After four years, Enigma is back! A lot has changed since 2021 when we did our pandemic-era virtual production of The Importance of Being Earnest – so much, in fact, that our next classic staged reading will be in person in not one, but two locations: Shadowbox Studio and Night School Bar.
We’re excited to showcase a holiday classic and one of our all-time faves: A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens. Adapted for the stage, we will present a reading of the whole book, just in time for the holiday season.
Because we’re Enigma, however, we’ve added a twist. We want to explore the connection between Dickens’ England and its inherent wealth and poverty differentials and the South, as well as the emotional labor that Scrooge’s partner, friends, and the spirits who come to save him expend.
Moreover, we want our production to represent values we believe in – our actors are paid first, our ticket price is sliding scale, and our profit will go to benefit Siembra NC. This important local organization works hard for the equality and safety of North Carolina’s residents and needs our help to stay strong. We want our work and art to benefit theirs, as well as the beautiful southern state we all call home.
